HHG 2025
Our communities have come together to hold another amazing Heathen spiritual gathering; this time, in honour of Yggdrasil, the World-Tree. Under promise of friðr do we meet to honour the gods, Ancestors, and our Inclusive Heathen community.
Yggdrasil is a name for the World Tree where Odin hung to gain the knowledge of the runes. The name Yggdrasil literally means something like“Terrifying-Steed”. This ‘tree’ is also the ‘horse’ used by Odin to mystically slip between the ‘heims’ or ‘countries’ of the Old Norse Cosmology (echoed in Odin’s eight-legged steed Sleipnir). The World-Tree permeates all things and is the loom upon which Wyrð is woven.
The World-Tree is how we Heathens meet our gods and travel the mind’s-eye through the nine worlds. The Tree provides a holy ‘heim’ that provide a sacred place within a grove of posts. These posts represent the mythic ‘countries’ linked by the roots and branches of the World-Tree. This sacred point is focused in our holy Vé.
We encourage everyone to participate in the blót, potluck húsel feast, and sumbel (symbel) because they are linked rituals. The blót ritual will be a bit different this year because we are renewing the posts and ropes that make-up the walls of the Raven’s Knoll Vé. The húsel ritual has changed this year to be a feast of everyone’s potluck dishes. At sumbel we raise the horn to speak good words in boast, toast, or gift. There will be workshops on lore, craft, and games, and an esoteric ceremony.
Remember that folx who are attending volunteer to put on this event, so fortify yourself and gain some honour by joining the shield-wall to help cook, clean, serve, tote, grunt, burn, etc. If you want to vote for the god-pole we raise next year, attend the Rede Moot. May the gods favour you.
